We are delighted to share that The Hollow: Strings of Heritage has been selected for the 2026 Diversity in Cannes Short Film Showcase, marking an exciting milestone for the project and its creative team.

Directed by Perth-based Chinese-Australian filmmaker Ying Chu, The Hollow explores themes of identity, belonging, and intergenerational connection through the story of Cheryl, a gifted flautist and dental PhD student navigating life between modern Australia and the traditions of her immigrant family. Through music, the film examines how culture, memory, and unspoken emotions can shape the search for one's own voice.

Being featured as part of Diversity in Cannes celebrates the film's commitment to authentic storytelling and cross-cultural dialogue, bringing a uniquely Australian and Chinese perspective to an international audience. The selection also reflects the growing recognition of stories that illuminate the richness and complexity of multicultural experiences.
